Anne Chung
Anne joins GARFO as a Fishery Resource Management Specialist with a passion for not just coastal and marine habitats but the communities that depend on them. Her career began as an Environmental Science major at the University of Michigan – Go Blue! She has now earned a Master’s degree in Ecosystem Management from the University of Miami and a PhD in Marine Biology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, focusing on herbivorous fish and their role in climate change resilience. She worked with the state of Hawai‘i for several years first as a NOAA Coral Reef Management fellow and then as a Planner, developing conservation programs with fishers and community members. She has previous federal experience with the Pacific Islands Regional Office Habitat Conservation Division conducting EFH consultations for coral reef ecosystems and helping to lead the Habitat Focus Area program in the Pacific Region. Most recently she worked for The Nature Conservancy leading grant proposals for the Hawai‘i and Palmyra Marine Program, including their largest successful application to-date to the NOAA Transformational Habitat program. She is based out of Washington state where she enjoys surfing, fishing, cooking, and spending time with her 5-month-old son, husband, and hound dog.
