How to Run Foreign Trade Query

Steps

1. To run a report select your desired parameters. First, select the type of trade that you would like to query. Next select the years. To select multiple years, hold down the ctrl key while clicking on the desired years or click-and-drag for subsequent years.

2. Click the single arrow pointing right to add it to your query. If you accidentally select a year that you do not want to query, simply select it and click the arrow pointing to the left.

You can also select all years by clicking the double arrow pointing right.

3. Choose what geographic scale you would like to query: Continents, Country or US Customs District.

4. Select the geographic scale that you would like to query. Hold down the ctrl key or click-and-drag to select multiple scales simultaneously.

5. Click the single arrow pointing right to add it to your query. If you accidentally select a geographic scale that you do not want to query, simply select it and click the arrow pointing to the left.

You can also select all geographic scales by clicking the double arrow pointing to the right.

6. Select the product type you would like to query. Hold down the ctrl key to select multiple product types simultaneously.

To find the product type type more quickly, you can use the "Search Products" option to quickly narrow down the options. For example, by typing "tuna" and hitting "search," you can see the product type field is narrowed to just tuna product type.

7. Click the single arrow pointing to the right to add it to your query.

8. Click the RUN REPORT button.

9. The results will appear on the right side of the page by year, product name, country name, trade type, volume, and value.

From there, you can view the data in different ways by selecting from the drop-down menu found directly above the results.

10. To start over or create a new query, select the Reset button.

How to Download, Format, and Calculate Totals

Report Download

To download a Foreign Trade report:

  1. Click on the Format & Download dropdown button.
  2. Click Download
  3. Choose a format to download the report.

Chart

To create a chart or graph of the Foreign Trade data:

  1. Click on the Format & Download dropdown button.
  2. Click Format
  3. Click Chart
  4. Select a Chart Type.
  5. Select a column in the Label dropdown.
  6. Select a column in the Value dropdown.
  7. Select a mathematical function in the Function dropdown.
  8. Enter a title name in the Axis Title for Label field.
  9. Enter a title name in the Axis Title for Value field.
  10. Click the Apply button.

Highlight

To highlight specific information in the Foreign Trade report:

  1. Click on the Format & Download dropdown button.
  2. Click Format
  3. Click Highlight
  4. Select a Highlight Type. You can choose to highlight an entire row or a single cell where the condition is applicable.
  5. In the Highlight box, select a background color. This will be the color of the highlight.
  6. Choose which information to highlight in the Highlight Condition section by selecting an option from the Column, Operator, and Expression dropdowns.
  7. Click the Apply button.

Calculate

To calculate specific information in the Foreign Trade report:

  1. Click on the Format & Download dropdown button.
  2. Click Format
  3. Click Group By
  4. Select a column in the Select Group By Column dropdown.
  5. Select a function in the Functions dropdown.
  6. Select a column in the Column dropdown.
  7. Click the Apply button.
