The Delta submersible vehicle, outfitted with video equipment (and other devices), was deployed from theR/V Auriga during September 2001 to monitor seafloor disturbance and benthic recovery after installation of the PC1 fiber optic cables.
* Purpose

Video data from specific dives falling within the bounds of the HMPR-113-2004-01p survey area were reviewed to examine the benthiccharacteristics as a tool for validating sonar imagery.

» Description

Navigation information (along with time stamp) was extracted from digital overlay of video tapes recordedon Mini-DV media. A point file was created in ArcInfo 9.1 depicting the assumed position of the Delta. Video tapeswere reviewed making note of primary and secondary substrate types, along with certain biological notations when deemed appropriate.Time stamp was noted on the video tapes at each substrate transistion and assumed to remain constant until the next transistion insediment type was encountered. Substrate type was entered into an Excel spreadsheet format where timestamp was used to correlate sedimentwith positional information.
