These data were collected by the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise using the CHARTS

system. The data includes hydrographic and topographic data. The data were collected from April-Sept 2004

along the coastlines of Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and North Carolina. This data was collected prior to

Hurricane Ivan. There is also a Post-Hurricane Ivan data set available for Alabama and Florida.

The accuracy of this data set has not been tested. The accuracy of the methodology has been published

in Irish, J.L., McClunk, J.K., Lillycrop, W.J., 2000. Airborne lidar bathymetry: the SHOALS system. PIANC Bulletin, No. 103-2000, 45-53.

Vertical accuracy is believed to be on the order of 15 cm root mean square error. Horizontal accuracy is expected to be on a similar order.

The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) received ASCII files from USACE. OCM performed the

following processing on the data to make it available within the Digital Coast Data Access Viewer (DAV):

1. The data were projected using the General Cartographic Transformation Package.

2. The lat, lon, and intensity values where extracted from the ascii files

and converted to the LAS binary format.
