- A crab year is July 1 through June 30 of the following calendar year.
- Annual IPQ = (PQS held/QS pool for fishery) x annual TAC for IPQ.
- Amounts greater than cap may be initially issued to, or used by, a person under "grandfather" rules.
- IPQ Use Caps are computed using current year ratios of PQS:IPQ.
- "Undetermined" means the TAC has not been announced for the year; therefore, the IPQ cap cannot be computed at this time.
- In addition to these use caps, a person may not use more than 60 percent of the IPQ issued in the BSS crab fishery with a North region designation during a crab fishing year.
- Starting with the 2006/07 crab fishing year, Bering Sea (C.bairdi) Tanner crab are managed as two stocks and fisheries: Eastern and Western Bering Sea (C. bairdi) Tanner crab (EBT and WBT, respectively).
- Use caps and related regulations are found at 50 CFR Part 680, at §680.42
- For each regionalized fishery, computing accurate, matching amounts of Class A CVO IFQ and IPQ within each region required using separately computed regional ratios of PQS:IPQ. The resulting IPQ fishery cap is the greater number of IPQ pounds from the computations of PQS/IPQ using each of the two regional ratios. Note that although EAG is subject to regionalization, all QS and PQS was initially issued for the South region.
