Summary
Solicit, review, rank, and fund proposals for ASTWG research projects. The ASTWG solicits proposals to address sources of uncertainty and information gaps in
population assessments. ASTWG encourages submission of project ideas for tools or techniques
that are optimized for value, cost and risk; beneficial to multiple regions; and have high potential for
application and rapid integration with survey operations supporting assessments. Proposal
submission will be a two-step process consisting of planning letters followed by full proposals. Five themes have been selected by the ASTWG to address sources of assessment error. Proposals
should address one or more of the following themes:
1) Characterization of benthic/demersal habitat
2) Remote species identification and enumeration
3) Near-boundary assessments
4) Broad-scale movements of living marine resources
5) Efficient Ecosystem Surveys
