Summary
The FCVA system will help NOAA Fisheries address Executive Order 13514 (which directs federal agencies to assess vulnerability and develop adaptation plans in a changing climate).
The project is an important step to reduce the risk of:
Implementing fishery management plans that may not be achievable or sustainable.
Experiencing unexpected long term negative impacts to fishing communities dependent on stock that have moved or become less productive.
Receiving legal challenges to management decisions for not adequately considering climate change in fisheries management.

Abstract: |
The FCVA system will help NOAA Fisheries address Executive Order 13514 (which directs federal agencies to assess vulnerability and develop adaptation plans in a changing climate). The project is an important step to reduce the risk of: Implementing fishery management plans that may not be achievable or sustainable. Experiencing unexpected long term negative impacts to fishing communities dependent on stock that have moved or become less productive. Receiving legal challenges to management decisions for not adequately considering climate change in fisheries management. |
Purpose: |
The FCVA system will be a web-based application designed to support fish climate vulnerability assessment initiative. The system will contain two major components: a web user interface and a database. The web user interface will allow users to create and manage fish stock and species records, assessments, assessment attributes, assessment categories, assessment reviewers, assessment scores and assessment summary reports. The database will store data and process various summary reports. |
Notes: |
This metadata record is intended to provide current, summary information on the Fish Climate Vulnerability Assessment (FCVA) system. As the system continues to evolve, each production release of FCVA will have a child metadata record within this parent record (see "Child Items" below). This metadata record will be updated over time to reflect any major changes to the system. Minor changes and release specific information will be documented in the children, release specific metadata records. |
