Abstract: |
This legacy system was originally developed using Oracle Forms 3.2 and over the years has been migrated many times up to it's current 11g version. In it's original release, the system functioned in a Client Server environment but now serves its internal users in a web based data entry environment. |
Purpose: |
The purpose of the Processed Products System (PPS) is to allow the staff within the National Marine Fisheries Office of Sciences & Technology to collect information through an annually survey. The National Marine Fisheries Service and its predecessor agencies have been collecting seafood processing data since 1918. This annual survey is the only comprehensive review of the U.S. seafood industry conducted annually. The information that is collected has a diversity of uses. The data are reported in Fisheries of the United States, and the FAO yearbook Fishery Statistics – Commodities. The data are also used for calculating the U.S. seafood consumption and for determining the value added, margins, and consumer expenditures for commercial fisheries. |
Notes: |
This metadata record is intended to provide current, summary information on the Process Products (PPS) System. As the system continues to evolve, each production release of PPS will have a child metadata record within this parent record (see "Child Items" below). This metadata record will be updated over time to reflect any major changes to the system. Minor changes and release specific information will be documented in the children, release specific metadata records. |
