Abstract:

The longest, continuous systematic survey of bait shrimp fishery operations is conducted by the National Marines Fisheries Service (NMFS) in Galveston Bay, Texas. This survey was an outgrowth of the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (now NMFS) which began in the late 1950's.

Purpose:

Indices of post larval and juvenile shrimp abundance provide valuable comparisons for long term assessment of the relation between abundance and changing environmental conditions and specific information concerning local fishing practices and trends.

Notes:

Summaries of the survey results including catch, effort, species composition, and numbers of active dealers and fishermen are prepared monthly 1959-84, except 1975, partial 1985-1987.
