Cruise name used to identify the survey or cruise (and as listed in /ftp/pub/hydro). |
GEAR_TYPE
VARCHAR2 |
The type of CTD used on the cast, or "bottle" if hydrographic stations were completed using Niskin bottles for discrete depth sampling. |
CAST
VARCHAR2 |
The consecutive cast number completed on the cruise. |
PRES
NUMBER |
The pressure level of the CTD. Note: if the gear type is "XBT" or "bottle", this field is actually DEPTH. However, the difference is minor in continental shelf work so it was decided that we would stick to one variable name; pressure with units decibars. See Oceanography Branch staff for a derivation of pressure to meters if this is more desireable. |

The light transmission, expressed in volts, from a transmissometer typically attached as an external sensor on the CTD. |
PAR
NUMBER |
The Photosynthetically Active Radiation from a PAR sensor typically installed as an external sensor on the CTD (units are volts). |
PHOSPHATE
NUMBER |
The phosphate concentration of the water sample and the units are micro molar per liter. |
NITRATE
NUMBER |
The nitrate concentration of the water sample, units are micro molar per liter. |
SILICATE
NUMBER |
The silicate concentration of the water sample with units mico molar per liter. |
CHLOROPHYLL
NUMBER |
The chlorophyll concentration of the water sample in micrograms per liter. |
