Abstract:

The Highly Migratory Species Management Division of the NMFS Office of Sustainable Fisheries implements the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act and Atlantic Tunas Conservation Act requirements for Atlantic tunas, swordfish, billfish and shark fisheries in the Atlantic.

Purpose:

The Highly Migratory Species Management Division of the NMFS Office of Sustainable Fisheries helps implement the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, the Atlantic Tunas Conservation Act, provisions for annual catch limits and accountability measures, bycatch reduction, fish stock status, and develops and implements fishery management plans for these species taking into account all domestic and international requirements under the Atlantic Tunas Convention Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
