Title: Hurricane Ike Aerial Photography: Rapid ResponseImagery of the Surrounding Regions After Landfall
Short Name: Hurricane_Ike
Status: Completed
Publication Date: 2008-09-15
Abstract:

The imagery posted on this site is of the surrounding regionsafter Hurricane Ike made landfall. The aerial photography missions wereconducted by the NOAA Remote Sensing Division. The images were acquiredfrom a nominal altitude of 7,500 feet, using an Emerge/Applanix DigitalSensor System (DSS).

Purpose:

This imagery was acquired by the NOAA Remote Sensing Division tosupport NOAA national security and emergency response requirements. Thisrapid response product was generated for use by emergency managers forvisual analysis of damage in the landfall area. It is not intended formapping, charting or navigation. In addition, it will be used for ongoingresearch efforts for testing and developing standards for airborne digitalimagery.

Supplemental Information:

The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixelis 50 cm (1.64 feet). Image file size is between 1 MB and 3 MB. In aneffort to acquire imagery in a timely manner after the landfall of theHurricane, clouds may be present in the imagery. To expidite processingrequired for a rapid response, a single UTM zone was used even if theproject area spanned multiple zones. Be advised that the BoundingCoordinates reflect the extents of the images acquired for this flightonly and do not imply full image coverage of the area.
