U.S. Arctic Voyage Planning Guide (AVPG)

The Arctic Voyage Planning Guide is a compilation of official U.S. Government information and references to sources of information that may be consulted by mariners when planning a voyage into or through U.S. Arctic waters. It is not a navigation tool itself, but is a compilation of materials to give mariners a consolidated picture of conditions, regulations, navigation guidance and unique circumstances that should be considered during voyage planning.

The Arctic Voyage Planning Guide is to be used in planning voyages to the US Arctic. Is not attended to be used for navigational purposes.

The Arctic Voyage Planning Guide exists as an electronic document in .PDF format and a printed version of that .PDF document. In its electronic form it contains hyperlinks to data elsewhere within the electronic document and links to data that may be reached over the Internet if Internet access is available. In its paper form it may be printed in part or in total to accompany a mariner\x92s voyage plan.

This Arctic Voyage Planning Guide must be kept up to date using the latest applicable notice to Mariners that are available. This Arctic Voyage Planning Guide does not replace information contained in critical nautical charts and other official nautical publications published by services on the authority of national Governments.

The International Maritime Organization is developing a Polar Code that should be consulted for recommended practices for navigating in polar waters.
