Summary

Description

This table contains edited data done at SEFSC for various fields in the ALS landings data submissions from 1983-2011. It is built from 3 tables: als.als_pr_land_1983_2011 (contains unedited landings from 1983-2011), als.als_pr_land_1983_2011_errata (contains edited data from the years 1983-2011), and als.als_landings_puerto_rico (which is extracted from the CCL (Caribbean Commercial Landings online entry data (2012-most recent) and reformatted to ALS standards.

MONTH_LANDED
VARCHAR2 		The month the catch was landed
YEAR_LANDED
VARCHAR2 		The calendar year the catch was landed.
FISHING_CENTER_ED
VARCHAR2 		The fishing center where the catch was landed. Puerto Rico has municipalities which contain multiple locations of landings. These locations are known as fishing centers. Generally the first 2 digits of the fishing center code reflects the municipality code.
WATER_BODY
VARCHAR2 		This is a generic NMFS water body code (1865) which basically just indicates the area fished is Puerto Rico. More specific area descriptions are available in the area_fished columns.
NMFS_GEAR_ED
VARCHAR2 		The NMFS code for the gear used.
NMFS_SPECIES_ED
VARCHAR2 		The NMFS code for the species caught
POUNDS_LANDED
NUMBER 		The reported pounds landed. (no correction factor used).
VALUE_IN_DOLLARS
NUMBER 		The value of the reported landings. NO correction factor used.
PRICE_PER_LB
NUMBER 		The price in dollars/pound. Some of these are calculated based on other identical or similar catch.
DISTANCE
VARCHAR2 		The perpendicular distance from shore. Caveat: Some fishers interpret this as the distance traveled from port.
LANDING_DATE
DATE 		The date the catch was landed.
PR_ID_CODE_ED
VARCHAR2 		The edited fisher license number.
PR_GEAR_ED
VARCHAR2 		The edited Puerto Rico gear code.
NUMBER_OF_TRIPS_ED
NUMBER 		The edited number of trips (older data had multiple trips on forms).

CORRECTION_FACTOR
NUMBER 		A factor calculated by Puerto Rico to account for under-reported landings. Surveys are taken periodically at dockside of vessels landing and reported landings are compared for the dates surveyed. The ratio of reported pounds/surveyed pounds is used to determine factors. Factors were calculated by entire island from 1983-2002, and by coast from 2003 - most recent. Prior to 2002 the factors were calculated based on the total number of trips (reported trips/surveyed trips). Method subject to change.
