Abstract

The LIDAR-derived data was collected in the Blackstone River area. This data supports the Federal Emergency Management Agency's specifications for mapping floodplains. These efforts required detailed elevation data and models, such as those available from LIDAR sensing. The data have also been made available to aid in other projects that require detailed surface, vegetation and/or structure elevations. Buildings classed as ground.

Distribution Information

  • Create custom data files by choosing data area, product type, map projection, file format, datum, etc.

  • Simple download of data files.

Access Constraints:

None

Use Constraints:

Users should be aware that temporal changes may have occurred since this data set was collected and some parts of this data may no longer represent actual surface conditions. Users should not use this data for critical applications without a full awareness of its limitations. These data depict the heights at the time of the survey and are only accurate for that time.

Data Quality

Horizontal Positional Accuracy:

Horizontal accuracy was not reported, therefore assuming 100 cm accuracy

Vertical Positional Accuracy:

RTK collected in coincidence; Quantitative Value: 0.185 meters, Test that produced the value: Reported as Quality level 4, with an point spacing of 1.3 m, therefore inference was that vertical accuracy would need to meet 18.5 cm

Completeness Report:

Complete

Conceptual Consistency:

All LiDAR files delivered were verified and tested to ensure they open and are positioned properly.

Process Steps

Process Step 1

CC ID: 1137922
Description:

The ABGPS, IMU, and raw LiDAR data are integrated into the post processor software. The resultant file is in an ASCII file. It is a binary file format that maintains information specific to the LiDAR data. The resultant points are produced in the geodetic coordinates referenced to the NAD83 horizontal datum and GRS80 vertical datum.

- Projection Transformation

The data was processed in the native UTM zone in meters and then transformed to the UTM Zone 18 final projection system and meters using an in-house transformation software.

Process Date/Time: 2004-11-16 00:00:00

Process Step 2

CC ID: 1137923
Description:

The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) received topographic PNT text files as part of the delivery from FEMA, referenced to UTM Zone 18 in meters horizontally but NAVD88 using the Geoid03 model vertically. OCM performed the following processing for data storage and Digital Coast provisioning purposes:

1. The LAS files were converted from PNT files to text files (txt)

2. The TXT files were converted to LAS files with txt2las (lastools), designating those points as Class 2 - Ground.

2. The LAS files were converted from orthometric (NAVD88) heights to ellipsoidal heights using the Geoid03 model.
