Abstract: |
The data contained in these files are a grid model representation of topographic last return and bathymetric data collected by the CHARTS system along the Gulf of Mexico coastline along Bay County, FL. Each data file covers approximately 5km of shoreline. In addition to these bare earth Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, the lidar point data that these DEM data were created from, are also available. These data are available for custom download at the link provided in the URL section of this metadata record. |
Purpose: |
The data were collected to depict the coastal zone elevations to support permit applications being generated by US Army Engineer District, Mobile. |

The Data Access Viewer (DAV) allows a user to search for and download elevation, imagery, and land cover data for the coastal U.S. and its territories. The data, hosted by the NOAA Office for Coastal Management, can be customized and requested for free download through a checkout interface. An email provides a link to the customized data, while the original data set is available through a link within the viewer. |

Data Quality
Horizontal Positional Accuracy: |
The original data positions were calculated using post-processed KGPS. 0.75 m at 1 sigma |
---|---|
Vertical Positional Accuracy: |
The original data elevations were calculated using post-processed KGPS, with results relative to the ellipsoid. The data were converted to orthometric heights using the NGS' Geoid03 model. 0.20 m at 1 sigma |
Completeness Report: |
The area of interest was well covered with exception of the area immediatly adjacent to the land-water interface where data are sparse in areas with shallow depths. The missing data are due to environmental conditions. |
Conceptual Consistency: |
The original data provided nominally 200% coverage of the shoreline for 500m inland from the land-water interface and 100% coverage from the shoreline out to at least -10 m depths. The data between flight lines matched well with each other and with ground control points. A TIN model was created from the original data and elevations interpreted from the TIN at 1m intervals on a regular grid. |

Process Steps
Process Step 1
Description: |
The edited random point data were loaded into QT Modeler to produce a 1m grid with 5m triangulation limit. The grid was exported to an ESRI ascii format from QT Modeler. |

Process Date/Time: | 2006-05-15 00:00:00 |
Process Step 2
Description: |
The ascii format grid file is converted to a tif raster using ArcToolbox. |
---|---|
Process Date/Time: | 2006-05-15 00:00:00 |
Process Step 3
Description: |
The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) received 8 files for the project area in tif format from JALBTCX. The bare earth raster files were at a 1 m grid spacing. The data were in geographic coordinates (NAD83) and NAVD88 (Geoid03) elevations in meters. OCM assigned the EPSG codes (4269 horizontal, and 5703 vertical) and copied the raster files to https for Digital Coast storage and provisioning purposes. |
