Summary

Abstract

The RESOURCE_POINT table contains attribute information for the vector POINTS representing resource managment areas, including artificial reefs, invasive species, mine sites, recreational fishing locations, repeated measurement sites, subsistence, and water intakes found in the Great Lakes - St. Clair / Detroit River System. The key field, HUNUM, links to the SOC_DAT table where attribute information for the vector POINTS in this data set are stored. A second field, TYPE, stores a 1-4 letter abbreviation of the mapped resource type. This field can be used to quickly identify feature types, and is used to symbolize the human use data layers.

See the Entity_and_Attribute_Overview for a detailed description of how the primary attribute tables relate to the geographic data layers. Also see the Browse_Graphic section for a link to the entity-relationship diagram, which describes the relationships between attribute tables in the ESI data structure. | Description Source: NOAA ESI Guidelines

Purpose:

The ESI data are intended to provide baseline environmental data for oil spill planning and response. The Clean Water Act with amendments by the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 requires response plans for immediate and effective protection of sensitive resources. The ESI data may be appropriate for many other coastal management efforts, though the original intent should be kept in mind.
