Entity Information
Entity Type
Data Table
Data Attribute / Type | Description |
---|---|
DSUITEID
NUMERIC |
Unique identifier for each Diel Suite deployed |
EXPOCODE
TEXT |
Defined as the Ship ICES code + departure date formatted as YYYYMMDD |
CRUISE_COMMON_NAME
TEXT |
More descriptive name of cruise/mission and is usually in the format [MissionID]-[REGIONDesignation]-[IslandCode if only one visited] |
MISSION_CODE
TEXT |
A single designation that applies to all the rounds associated with a given mission/cruise |
ASSOC_REA_SITE
TEXT |
An identifier for the ecological site at the island or atoll (LOCATION) associated with the diel survey. Combines a 3-letter island code (derived from LOCATIONCODE) with a 2-4 digit site number. |
OCC_SITEID
TEXT |
A 3-dimensional identifier for the fixed location (LATITUDE and LONGITUDE) and depth where the subsurface temperature logger (STR) was deployed at the island or atoll (LOCATION). Includes "OCC" prefix, a 3-letter location code (derived from LOCATION), and a 3-digit site number. A newly deployed instrument is assigned to a pre-existing OCC_SITEID if its coordinates are within a 100-m diameter and its depth is within a 3-m depth cylinder of a pre-existing OCC_SITEID, otherwise, the instrument is assigned a new OCC_SITEID. |
REGION
TEXT |
The name of the region where the diel survey was conducted in the Pacific Islands region: American Samoa, Pacific Remote Island Areas, Mariana Archipelago, main Hawaiian Islands, Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. |
REGIONCODE
TEXT |
Code for the region surveyed in the Pacific Islands region: American Samoa (SAMOA), Pacific Remote Island Areas (PRIA), Mariana Archipelago (MARIAN), main Hawaiian Islands (MHI), Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (NWHI). |
LOCATION
TEXT |
Name of island or atoll where the sample was collected in the Pacific Islands region (REGION). |
LOCATIONCODE
TEXT |
3-Letter unique code for LOCATION. |
LATITUDE
NUMERIC |
Latitude in decimal degrees, WGS84, for the given Site |
LONGITUDE
NUMERIC |
Longitude in decimal degrees, WGS84, for the given Site |
DEPTH_M
NUMERIC |
OCC Survey depth (m) from dive computer at diel suite deployment |
YEAR
NUMERIC |
Year of the mission |
UTCDATETIME
DATE |
UTC date and time of pressure measured from the ADCP, collected every 2 minutes. |
CTD_SAMPLEINTERVAL_SEC
NUMERIC |
Sample interval for CTD data. |
PRESSURE_DB
NUMERIC |
Measured pressure value in decibars, measured from an ADCP co-located at the SiteID with a CTD that collected only temperature and conductivity (a non-standard CTD for most diel surveys). ADCP pressure is substituted for pressure measured from the CTD in the carbonate chemistry calculations for diel surveys conducted in 2016 in the PRIA. |
TEMP_DEGC
NUMERIC |
Measured temperature value in degrees Celsius. |
SALN_PSU
NUMERIC |
Calculated salinity value in Practical Salinity Units (PSU) . |
DENSITY_SIGMAT
NUMERIC |
Calculated sigma-t density value, the density of seawater at atmospheric pressure minus 1000 kilograms/cubic meter. NULL if pressure is NULL. |
ADCP_SAMPLEINTERVAL_SEC
NUMERIC |
Sample interval for ADCP data. |
HEIGHTBIN_M
NUMERIC |
Height bin above the ADCP. Each height bin is represented as the upper limit of the bin height above the sensor on the seafloor (for example, a 1.4 m bin represents current data collected between 0.4 m and 1.4 m above the ADCP). ADCP data include a blanking region, or a small distance in front of the transducer in which measurements cannot be made, of 0.2-0.4 m, and typically grouped into 1-m height bins, though smaller bin sizes (0.25 m or 0.5 m) are used for shallower deployments (2016). |
DIRECTION_DEG
NUMERIC |
Current direction, measured in degrees (0-360). Data are trimmed to a maximum height bin for each time interval using pressure data to remove above-water signal. As a result, NULL values may exist for larger height bins above the surface of the water due to waves and tides. |
SPEED_MS
NUMERIC |
Current magnitude (speed), measured in meters per second. Calculated as the square root of the sum of the squared u and v velocities. Data are trimmed to a maximum height bin for each time interval using pressure data to remove above-water signal. As a result, NULL values may exist for larger height bins above the surface of the water due to waves and tides. |

Abstract: |
ADCP entities and attributes for diel surveys. |
Notes: |
If CTD sensor failed to log pressure as in a diel suite deployment in 2016, depth was calculated with pressures as recorded from ADCP. |
