Item Identification

Title: PRP Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) casts
Short Name: PRP CTD
Status: In Work
Abstract:

These data contain shipboard temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and chloropigments data collected in the Pacific Ocean in pelagic environments. Data are collected by an SBE system, and recorded and processed by the SEASOFT Win32 data acquisition and processing software.

Purpose:

CTD data obtained during shipboard surveys are used to study the physical and chemical properties of water. Besides providing information on water characteristics at specific locations and in various environments, this data is used to study the effects of physical, chemical, and biological water properties on the distribution, movement patterns, and biomass of organisms in distinct locations, by simultaneously collecting other physical and biological data such as current magnitude and direction and bioacoustic backscatter. Information on environmental effects on economically important organisms, such as tuna, can advance ecosystem based fisheries management techniques and help set standards for sustainable fishing practices.
