Lineage

Lineage Statement:

NMFS began placing observers on domestic vessels in 1986. This was in support of an industry-funded data gathering program on domestic vessels fishing in an area of the Bering Sea north of Port Moller where bycatch of red king crab was of concern. Other small-scale domestic observer programs were implemented during the late 1980s. This data model was retired in 2008.
