NOAA Live! Alaska Season 4: 2023-24
NOAA Live! Alaska is a series of webinars that connects NOAA scientists and partners with students, teachers, and Alaska communities. In 2023-24, we are featuring NOAA programs and partners in Alaska communities.
NOAA Live! Alaska is a series of interactive webinars, aimed at Alaska students in grades 2-8 (but of interest to all ages!). We will feature NOAA scientists, educators and partners to explore NOAA’s work in Alaska. Learn about current research. Connect to what’s going on in your communities. Join us to ask questions to our presenters and learn more about weather, oceanography, marine life, fisheries and more in Alaska!
NOAA Live! Alaska is coordinated by NOAA's Alaska Fisheries Science Center, NOAA's Alaska Regional Collaboration Network, and the National Weather Service. The series is modeled on the NOAA Live! webinars coordinated by Woods Hole Sea Grant and the NOAA Regional Collaboration Network. September 28, 2023 - Exploring the Unknown Deep Waters of Alaska
Thursday, Sep 28, 2022 - 1:00 pm Alaska time
Abby Letts and Trish Albano, NOAA Ocean Exploration Expedition Coordinators, and Ingrid Martinson, NOAA Ocean Exploration Explorer in Training
Have you ever wondered what happens deep below the ocean's surface where the rays of sun no longer reach? It's actually exploding with more life than you may think. NOAA Ocean Exploration is a federal agency that has been exploring the ocean for over 20 years and this year has brought us to the waters of Alaska (Aleutians Islands and Gulf of Alaska). Through cutting edge technology, collaborative efforts, and important partnerships in the region, we have been able to shed light on some of the beautiful and interesting biology and geology right in Alaska's backyard. Join us to learn how we explore, why we explore, and see what amazing finds we've encountered on our Alaska expeditions.

November 7, 2023 - Taking the Pulse of the Planet - Measuring the Atmosphere at the Top of the World
Tuesday, November 7, 2022 - 1:00 pm Alaska time
with Bryan Thomas, Barrow Atmospheric Baseline Observatory, Global Monitoring Laboratory, NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research
In the Arctic, as far north as one can go in the state of Alaska, NOAA measures the atmosphere. Over the last 50 years, outside the City of Utqiaġvik near Point Barrow, we have watched as the amount of greenhouse gases has been growing, the amount of ozone-depleting chemicals has been shrinking, and snow cover and energy available in the atmosphere have changed seasonally.
