Marcy Cockrell, Ph.D.
Dr. Marcy Cockell joined the Office of Aquaculture in 2023 as a science coordinator. In this role, she works across the Aquaculture Program and with diverse external partners to develop a robust and innovative science portfolio and ensure that the best available science is used in management, regulation, and decision making for the U.S. aquaculture industry. Marcy is also passionate and active in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space, and has quickly become an integral part of the ongoing DEI work within the Office of Aquaculture.
Prior to joining NOAA, Marcy led the science policy, development, and education portfolio at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Division of Aquaculture. Dr. Cockrell has a background in coastal ecology, fisheries science, and aquaculture as well as science communication and environmental education. She holds a Ph.D. in marine science from the University of South Florida, is a recognized Certified Public Manager from the Florida State University Askew School of Public Administration, and was a National Academies Gulf Research Program science policy fellow from 2018-2019.
