Mary L. Moser, Ph.D.
Background
Before coming to the NWFSC in 1999, Mary Moser worked at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and taught classes in fisheries biology and ichthyology. Her research has focused on anadromous fish migration behavior and energetics. She is particularly interested in primitive species, having extensively researched sturgeon, and more recently, lamprey. Mary has made extensive use of telemetry and hydroacoustics in her research on fish movement. She led the Shortnose Sturgeon Recovery Team, served on the Green Sturgeon Biological Review Team, and has been an important resource for sturgeon management issues. Mary received her B.A. in biology from Kalamazoo College and her Ph.D. in zoology from North Carolina State University.
Current Research
Mary leads the Radiotelemetry Team, which collects and archives radiotelemetry data that document migrational behavior of adult anadromous fishes in the Columbia River basin. The objective of her current research is to identify obstacles to adult salmonid and Pacific lamprey passage at hydropower dams. This work involves fish capture, tagging, tracking and a great deal of data processing. Mary is also responsible for generating reports of the work conducted by the team and for the ultimate publication of research results.
