Fish printing, a favorite family activity at the Milford Lab's open house.
The lab is divided into a series of activities, each demonstrating a research topic, with scientists on hand to present the material and answer questions. Hands on activities are available for all age groups; highlights include:
a touch tank featuring animal ambassadors from Long Island Sound
fish printing
seaweed pressing
an ocean chemistry experiment.
New this year: The Long Island Sound oyster health project uses microbiology to detect diseases in oyster populations throughout Long Island Sound. Learn more about the project and help us identify disease DNA in our oysters with a bracelet making activity!
The public is invited to visit and tour the lab at their own pace; families, community groups, and curious community members are welcome. Kids will receive a passport that they can get stamped at each stop on the tour. When the passport is full, bring it to the lobby to receive a sticker prize! We hope you will consider a visit to our lab this September.
