Biological Science Technician

Josh earned his BS in Fisheries and Wildlife Science and a Graduate Certificate in Wildlife Management, both from Oregon State University. He also holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Oregon. His primary research interests are in marine mammal conservation and pinniped foraging ecology. Josh has worked in a wide variety of natural resources positions for both Federal and State agencies. He has previously worked as an Aquatic Invasive Species Biologist with the National Parks Service, as a Wetland Conservationist with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, as an Environmental Compliance Coordinator for the US Army Corps of Engineers, as a Forestry Technician with the US Forest Service, as a Fisheries Biologist with the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission, and as a Wildlife Habitat Technician with the Oregon Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. From 2017 through 2019, Josh was a Biological Research Technician and Logistic Lead for NOAA/JIMAR’s Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program based out of PIFSC in Oahu, HI. And, in 2023, Josh worked as an Biologist and marine mammal observer for the USGS/USFWS Pacific walrus population surveys in the Bering and Chukchi seas. Josh moved to Woods Hole and started work at NEFSC in 2024, assuming the role of Small Boat Coordinator in the Conservation Ecology Branch, providing support to the Protected Species Division.
