Kimberly Murray

Kimberly Murray leads the Seal Ecology and Assessment Program at NOAA Fisheries, Northeast Fisheries Science Center in Woods Hole, MA. The Seal Ecology program at NOAA focuses primarily on the abundance and distribution of gray and harbor seals in the Northwest Atlantic, their foraging ecology, and the impact of anthropogenic activities on population growth. Kimberly is also responsible for analyzing and estimating bycatch of threatened and endangered sea turtles in commercial fisheries to inform Endangered Species Act conservation measures. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz where she studied the physiology and foraging ecology of California sea lions. After working as an Associate Editor at an environmental consulting firm in Santa Cruz, and later for Fishery Bulletin journal at NOAA Fisheries, she received a Masters of Environmental Management degree from Duke University. After working for the Marine Policy Center at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, she joined the Protected Species Branch at NOAA in 2002.
