Fisheries of the United States, 2020
The annual Fisheries of the United States report is a yearbook of fisheries statistics for the nation. It provides data on commercial landings and value and recreational catch.
Each year NOAA Fisheries compiles key fisheries statistics from the previous year into an annual snapshot documenting fishing’s importance to the nation. According to the Fisheries of the United States, 2020 report, U.S. commercial fishermen landed 8.4 billion pounds valued at $4.7 billion in 2020.
In our recreational fisheries, U.S. anglers took nearly 200 million trips in 2020. These recreational anglers caught an estimated 1 billion fish and released 65 percent of those caught. The total recreational harvest was estimated at 344 million fish weighing 353 million pounds.
