Environmental Monitors On Lobster Traps (eMOLT): Long-term Observations Of New England's Bottom-water Temperatures

Beginning in 2001, dozens of New England lobstermen have been installing temperature recorders on their traps to document changes from hourly to interannual time scales. These changes are due to a variety of processes such as tides, winds, exchanges with the offshore ocean waters, and larger scale climatic cycles.

Changes in the northeast shelf ecosystem are resulting in changes in timing of when fish reproduce and were they live. Management of marine fish requires long-term data of eggs, larvae, and adults to understand the past, present, and future of marine fisheries.
